10 March 2026 – Thailand’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sihasak Phuangketkeow, said the government is aware of concerns raised by LGBTQ travelers whose passport titles do not match their gender identity when traveling abroad.
He explained that the issue can usually be clarified with immigration officers in other countries. However, authorities will review whether any parts of existing laws or administrative regulations need adjustment, noting that Thailand already recognizes gender identity in certain contexts.
When asked whether changing a gender title to match a person’s gender identity could cause problems when traveling internationally, Sihasak said that if a person’s legal status changes, the title on their Thai passport must also be updated accordingly.
He added that under current law, a new passport must be issued to reflect any official change in personal status.
