Thai Platform Launch to Support Motorcycle Taxi Drivers and Local Vendors

Two innovative platforms, "Nong Khoei Ma Thao Rai?i" and "Tamsang-Tamsong" launch to help motorcycle taxi drivers and local food vendors increase income without high commission fees. Developed by ThaiHealth and Chulalongkorn University, the systems feature a co-contribution model charging only 5-6 baht per transaction instead of the 35% typically charged by mainstream platforms.

Bangkok, May 19, 2025 - The Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) and the Asia Research Cluster for Social Solidarity and Inclusive Economy at Chulalongkorn University's Institute of Asian Studies have launched two innovative digital platforms: "Nong Khoei Ma Thao Rai?" (Have You Been Here Before) and "Tamsang-Tamsong" (Order and Deliver).

The platforms, developed under the Social and Solidarity Economy concept, aim to enhance economic well-being by helping motorcycle taxi drivers and small food vendors access digital systems to increase their income and build sustainable self-reliance.

Akkanat Wantanasombat, researcher from the Asia Research Cluster for Social Solidarity and Inclusive Economy, explained that both platforms were developed with direct input from users - motorcycle taxi drivers, local shops, and food vendors. He emphasized that the platforms feature user-friendly interfaces, allowing even those with limited digital technology experience to operate them through either the application or Line Chat Bot.

"Unlike mainstream platforms that charge up to 35% commission, our systems use a co-contribution model where restaurants, riders, and consumers share actual costs of just 5-6 baht per transaction," Akkanat noted. The algorithm matches jobs based on time and queue order, prioritizing drivers closest to the location.

Chalerm Changthongmadan, President of the Motorcycle Drivers Association of Thailand, highlighted that during COVID-19, drivers' daily income dropped from 700-800 baht to 400-500 baht, causing significant stress and mental health issues. "These platforms prevent unfair competition and increase income for participating drivers while establishing service standards and providing access to formal financing," Chalerm said.

The platforms have already been implemented in 19 areas nationwide, including communities in Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Yala, with plans to expand to 10 more areas in 2025.

The platforms are available for free download on Google Play and App Store.
